Rikki Ililonga – Zambia

Buy it here

Zambia’s rock scene is startling in its completeness, especially for a scene that emerged, unfurled, and disappeared so quickly. It contained all of rock’s sub-genres, but it was much more than an imitation of American and European rock music: it quickly became a uniquely Zambian movement, befitting of its name. Rikki Ililonga sounds nothing like other rock music from the African continent – or elsewhere.

Now-Again Helps The Beat Konducta’s Journeys In Africa – And Announces WITCH’s (Re)Introduction

We’re happy to announce that a few of our Zambian psych reissues have served as fodder for Madlib’s forthcoming Beat Konducta In Africa – entry three in his once-a-month album series, The Madlib Medicine Show. Madlib’s album is out in late March – right before our CD issue of WITCH’s first album, Introduction, sees release in conjunction with Germany’s Shadoks.

In the meantime, download the title track from WITCH’s garage-rock masterpiece and check the way Madlib flipped it for his “Raw Introduction.”

Out Now: Savath & Savalas The Predicate Dub Version (Pre-Sale On Stones Throw’s Webstore)…

We told you about this last fall. And it’s finally here – this new entry into the Savath and Savalas book – etched by a new production entity we know only as “The Predicate.” Packaged as a “mini-LP” in a thick “tip on” cardboard sleeve, this limited edition CD is available now on Stones Throw’s webstore and is out everywhere on Tuesday.

Who woulda thunk it – “Catalan-folk-psych with minimalist-electronic-sensibilities” re-imagined as an excursion in neo-dub? Not us, but La Llama: The Predicate Dub Version is doing it right about now.

Some Buzz with your Fuzz? Intelligentsia Coffee and Brazil Fuzz Guitar Bananas Set Available Now

If you haven’t copped the Brazilian Fuzz Guitar Bananas comp, here’s a good reason to do so: for a limited time, over at Intelligentsia, you can now buy a $30 set that pairs the CD with a pound of organic Serra do Bone Brazilian coffee. “Deep bass notes, dark chocolate tones… caramel silkiness….” Yeah, that’s how the coffee fiends describe this particular Brazilian blend, but, you know, they could be referring to the comp as well couldn’t they?
