Exclusive – A History of Zamrock: Jagari Chanda Discusses Zambia’s Best 70s Rock Bands On RBMA Radio.

On the eve of the worldwide release of our WITCH We Intend To Cause Havoc! anthology, the good folks at Red Bull Music Academy Radio have posted the second of their Zamrock Specials. This, A History Of Zamrock, is an important listen: WITCH bandleader Emmanuel “Jagari” Chanda discusses the Zamrock ensembles that the WITCH considered peers and the subtleties of the Zamrock scene. Includes rare music by Paul Ngozi and Ngozi Family, The Peace, Amanaz, 5 Revolutions, Keith Mlevhu and Musi-O-Tunya.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, they’ve posted a transcript of Egon’s Red Bull Music Academy interview with Jagari from Madrid, 2011. Links below.

A WITCH PRIMER – Jagari Chanda Breaks Down His Band’s History On An RBMA Radio Special.

If you’re a regular visitor to this site, you probably remember that the Red Bull Music Academy brought WITCH’s bandleader Emmanuel “Jagari” Chanda to Madrid, Spain last year to discuss the history of Zambia’s Zamrock scene with Egon. Now, as a lead up to the release of our WITCH anthology We Intend To Cause Havoc!, Red Bull Music Academy Radio is presenting two Zamrock specials that Egon and Jagari recorded in Madrid. The first – Jagari’s “Fireside Chat” – is streamable below or available via link, and is essential listening: Jagari breaks down the history of the WITCH band, and plays/discusses music from each of their five albums and rare 45s. The second – an overview of the most important Zamrock bands – is to come later this month.
