Jazzman Records stellar Soul Spectrum anthology contains some of the finest rare 70s and 80s disco, soul and boogie – culled from records so rare they were once only heard when played on the original thousands-of-dollars-wax when choice DJs spun them out. We have a long-standing partnership with Jazzman and their excellent catalog of funk, soul, jazz and latin. As with all of their titles, with Soul Spectrum we offer one stop clearance.
The late Nigerian trumpeter Bola Johnson touched on all the parts of the 60s and 70s Lagos scene that we love so much – Afro Beat, heavy funk, highlife and traditional blues. Everyone from Henry Rollins to Madlib is a fan nowadays, and of course, we are too. We are proud to rep his catalog directly with his Estate. One stop clearance.
Hard to imagine that this music came from late 60s Sweden, and only two tracks were released prior to the late 2000s! The Baby Grandmothers gigged with Hendrix, later became the rather famous Mecki Mark Men and now are lauded as one of the great, late 60s world-psych-rock ensembles. We rep this in association with Stockholm’s Subliminal Sounds. One stop clearance.
Above and below – two short films captured by Grace Oh and her team at Fabiano do Nascimento’s Dança dos Tempos release party at the Blue Whale in Los Angeles. On site – Brasilian percussion legend Airto Moreira who played with Fabiano on the studio album. More info on the project in our earlier post here.
If you’ve not heard this band’s wondrous music yet, you can download a track here – and watch a video clip of the performance of the same song on the WGBH Hoagy Carmichael’s Music Shop program, which aired for an unbelievable season in the early 1970s. Imagine being a kid on that show. C’mon now.
