Thurs – Sat, October 13, 14, 15, Noon-7PM
Rappcats, 5636 York Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90042

Numero Group, one of our favorite reissue labels, and the source of an endless amount of Madlib samples, is bringing their factory outlet to Los Angeles for a three-day stint at Rappcats. Expect nearly every extant Numero title to be on display, Numero’s private stash of rarities, and hundreds of vintage and rare LP’s and 45s personally culled by label head Rob Sevier. Sevier is one of the world’s foremost authorities on American soul and funk music and a helluva collector. His collaborative efforts with Egon and Now-Again include Loving On The Flipside, Enjoy the Experience and a forthcoming joint album scheduled for Record Store Day 2017, which we will be announcing soon.

Saturday BONUS, 2PM: Ned Doheny in-store performance. Dublab will be broadcasting LIVE from Rappcats on Friday on Saturday. Rob Sevier will also appear at Funkmosphere @ The Virgil, Oct. 13th, and in-store at Itasca at 5PM, Oct. 14th.

UPDATE – MoSS’s Records Released From Customs. One Day, One Hour Pop Up Extension At Rappcats

MoSS’S RECORD COLLECTION CUSTOMS DELAY EXTENSION
EXOTIC WORLD ROCK & FUNK AT RAPPCATS ONE DAY, ONE HOUR ONLY

Friday, October 7, 2016
6PM-7PM
5636 York Blvd,
Los Angeles CA 90042

Update – as you might have heard, US Customs delayed one box of key LPs for MoSS’s pop up record shop at Rappcats this past Saturday. The box has been released, and all of the records are graded, priced and are staged on the Rappcats wall. If you missed the Atomic Forest Disco Roar or clean WITCH Lazy Bones!! LP’s – amongst a series of rare Zamrock and Ethiopian 45s (Mulatu’s “Yegele Tezeta” with picture sleeve!) – now is your chance to get them. Come by Rappcats this Friday for a one day, one hour Custom Delay Extension of MoSS’s record shop. All Strawberry Rain titles will be $15 each and any used LP’s that didn’t sell at the event will be priced with discounts.

MoSS – pictured above, buying records in Zambia – is a hip hop producer, for the likes of Ghostface Killah and Guilty Simpson. The kind of dude who hangs out with DJ Premier – and, in his spare time, scours the globe for the most awesome and obscure World Rock, Funk and Folk albums, which he issues on his Strawberry Rain imprint. The likes of the incredible Thai Caravan, Indonesia’s hard rock kings AKA and Zamrock hero Keith Mlevhu have all been issued on MoSS’s imprint.

He met Egon when he sold him a record by South Korean psych gods He 6. The two started collaborating on reissues with their joint effort Those Shocking Shaking Days, Indonesian Hard, Psychedelic, Progressive Rock And Funk. They’ve continued working together on many of Now-Again’s Zamrock reissues, including the forthcoming Welcome To Zamrock anthologies.

MoSS is a quiet record dealer: he’s a collector more than a dealer, but he sells to everyone from psych druid Hans Pokora – with whom he edited the last of the lauded Record Collector Dreams rock bibles – to Madlib, Jake One and Diamond D. For this special pop up he’s bringing everything from classic funk to rare library LP’s to grail-level World rock LP’s – along with the entirety of his Strawberry Rain run, including many limited edition albums.

The next two pop up record shops at Rappcats:

October 13-15: The Numero Group Factory Outlet Tour and Rob Sevier’s Record Collection
October 28-29: Mr. Bongo’s Record Collection of Global Grooves/Arthur Verocai Celebration

If you’ve been following Now-Again for the past couple years, you know that Egon’s been selling pieces from his record collection in a series of pop up record shops at Rappcats. This time, it’s Egon’s buddy – collector extraordinaire DJ Shadow – doing the selling. While Shadow’s not selling his collection, he is pulling back the curtain on a brace of dupes he’s managed to process over the last few years. Expect a strange and broad assortment of lesser-seen vinyl in all genres, most offered under $15, and with an effort to price well below established online value. “This is a chance for producers, dealers, and DJ’s to access seldom-seen and eclectic vinyl at affordable prices,” says Shadow. “These are all records I have other copies of, and I’ve decided that I don’t need to keep multiples. Think of it as a year-long thrift-store hunt consolidated into two days.”

In addition, there’s the outliers: good music in unfairly ignored formats such as 8-Track, reel-to-reel, and cassette. The man himself will of course be on hand to sign anything and everything, or just to say hello. Love music? Love records? Love hanging out with cool folks? Then you’ll have a good time at The First Annual DJ Shadow Storage Sale. See you there!

25% Off Sale During Egon’s Pop Up Record Shop At Rappcats – July 16th

Egon pop up record shop at Rappcats
Saturday, July 16, 2015
Noon — 5PM
5636 York Blvd,
Los Angeles CA 90042

On July 16th, Egon’s hosting a record store at Rappcats, selling records from his collection, one-day only. This is the second pop up of 2016, and will be done every quarter, with unique records being made available at each event. For this event, he’s selling rare records from Iran – from 60s garage rock 45s to 70s funk LP’s to Iranian jazz and folk. Of course, records from African funk to space jazz to psychedelic rock will also line the walls of the new 1500 square foot Rappcats space in Highland Park.

Now-Again recently issued Iranian rock legend Kourosh’s latest album, Malek Jamshid, which was banned from release in his home country. Egon’s first Kourosh anthology, Back From The Brink, is still available in 3LP, 7″ box set and CD formats. An entire set of Kourosh’s original Iranian pressed 45s in NM condition will be on offer at the pop up.

Also available will be the entire Now-Again catalog — for a one day discount of 25% less than our normal retail. If you can’t make it to Highland Park, all online Now-Again orders from the Rappcats store placed on July 16th will receive a 25% discount as well.

Tropicalia In Furs Pop Up Brasilian Record Shop Returns To Rappcats

Joel Stones is bringing back his record store Tropicalia in Furs from NYC to Los Angeles for a 2-day popup shop at Rappcats!

Sat & Sun, May 21-22
Noon-6PM
5636 York Blvd,
Los Angeles CA 90042

“I will bring tons of Brazilian records, 45s, LPs, some jazz, funk, soul, prog, psych, garage, boxes of 45s with good French, Turkish, African, Northern Soul, tons of crazy stuff.”

Tropicalia in Furs, housed in a small storefront in the LES, NYC, was a record store like no other: a spot to buy rarities, hear psychedelic sounds and engage in unparalleled chit chat with owner Joel Stones, a cadre of open minded individuals and celebrities from the Beastie Boys to Elijah Wood. The shop closed in 2013. We worked with Rappcats to host a popup event with Tropicalia in Furs last summer and sold out of every record. Now Joel is bringing back the store for a second helping – and promises to fly to Brasil to bring fresh stock the week before the event.
