Egon’s Final Pop Up Record Shops at Now-Again

12 years ago, Egon hosted his first pop up record shop at Now-Again Records HQ in the Highland Park neighborhood in Los Angeles. In 2016 he opened an adjoining space and expanded the concept to more than record shops – the space hosted cultural gatherings of likeminded people from the world over, from artists to winemakers to musicians of all walks, from young to old. The inspiration came, originally, from the legendary record conventions hosted in the early 1990s in New York City’s Roosevelt Hotel. So, with the announcement of the end of these events – we will wrap this series at the end of 2026 – it’s fitting that we are bringing a host of rarities from the King of the Roosevelt, PM Dawn producer and avid collector, the late Prince Be, on the eve of what would have been Be’s 56th birthday.

We will post more news here as to the final slate – which will include stalwart friends DJ Shadow and the Groove Merchant’s Chris Veltri. But, for the moment, you get to celebrate Be’s life in music with us and his family, who will be in town with us and PM Dawn’s old manager and Egon’s long time collecting inspiration George Sulmners, who curated the sale with Be’s family.

These last of these longstanding events will be announced here and on Egon’s Instagram – @nowagain. Don’t miss any updates – sign up for the Now-Again email newsletter here. MORE

Egon’s Rappcats Grab Bag – Pop-Up Record Shop Postponed

It will come as no surprise that Rappcats will no longer be opening up for Egon’s pop-up record shop on the weekend of March 21-22. We will announce a new date as soon as we can.

That said, we’re making the best of it for those stuck at home: we’ve assembled a limited amount of 3 LP grab bags and we’re offering them for sale online, on a first come first serve basis. Each grab bag comes with three pieces of vinyl from Egon’s collection. All genres.

Egon’s First Pop Up Record Shop of 2018 – Selling Bubbha Thomas and his Lightmen Band’s Records

Available now at our web store at Rappcats: The Lightmen’s Fancy Pants.

Now-Again Records celebrated the reissue of The Lightmen Plus One’s Spiritual Jazz classic Fancy Pants with a pop-up record shop at Rappcats. The sale was hosted by Egon, with records sourced from Bubbha Thomas and his Lightmen bandmates – saxophonist Doug Harris and bassist Don Patterson’s collections – and contained both one-of-a-kind rarities and classic soul, funk, jazz and rock LPs and 45s that inspired Thomas and his band. And of course albums by the Lightmen band itself. Don Patterson himself was at the space, talking jazz and signing any copies of the albums purchased from the collections.

Egon’s Pop Up Record Shop At Rappcats – August 5th

Rappcats
5638 York Blvd
Los Angeles
August 5, Noon-6PM

On August 5th, Egon’s hosting his first record store of 2017 at Rappcats, selling records from his collection, one-day only. What used to be a quarterly event is now semi-annual, with new records sourced from around the world available at each event. For this event, he’s selling records sourced from the collection of funk legends the Pazant Brothers, BT Express guitarist and record producer Billy Nichols, and records from the collections of twin brothers Michael Cosmic and Phill Musra, whose two free/spiritual jazz albums are the seventh entry in the Now-Again Reserve Edition subscription.

Of course, records from deep disco and boogie to West African afro-beat to Brasilian bossa-nova will also line the walls of the 1500 square foot Rappcats space in Highland Park. Also available on site will be the entire Now-Again catalog — for a one day discount of 25% less than our normal retail prices. If you can’t make it to Highland Park, all online Now-Again orders from the Rappcats store placed on August 5th will receive a 25% discount as well.

Phill Musra will be at the space, performing live from 12-4 pm, and signing any copies of the albums purchased from he and Michael Cosmic’s collection.
