Black Man’s Cry Record Release Day/Release Party Photos

Now-Again | Feb. 23, 2010 | News |

Today marks the worldwide release of our Fela anthology Black Man’s Cry: The Inspiration of Fela Kuti. We threw a record release party this past Sunday at Palate Food and Wine in Los Angeles. We told you it would be worth the drive – Cut Chemist, J.Rocc and Egon played six hours of the deepest African music they could get their hands on, good Burgundy flowed all eve, interested passersby munched on goat tacos and an overwhelming feeling of funkiness abounded.

Check out photos here.
…. And if you haven’t bought the album yet, it’s in and shipping at Stones Throw’s webstore.

I was wondering if you accepted interns for Now-Again?

I am a 20 year old college student, and admittedly, am not very familiar with funk/African (a bit more familiar with Motown stuff) music, having just dived into it a few months ago. However, I am eager to learn as much as possible about one of the illest, most turbulent periods of music and am looking to explore it through writing. I’m also interested in learning more about how independent record labels work, especially when the prospective clientele isn’t young and eager, but often far removed from the musical sphere. I couldn’t find a label that better synthesizes these things than N-A.

    Thanks for your time,

P.S: Is The Equatics’ joint coming in on vinyl?

That cd is The Mebusas – Bloodbrother out on academy.

It is a nigerain rock-funk album from the 70’s.

It is by the way insanely good and as the song ‘Son of mr bulldog’ on it. As heard on the Afro-baby comp (soundway).
