Happy Birthday, Serge Gainsbourg – A Psych-Funk Remembrance….

If you’re a frequent visitor to our site, you know we’re big Serge Gainsbourg fans. Last year we ran Serge Week – a small series that dug into some of our favorite Gainsbourg psych-funk tunes – in our Picks section. Today, in honor of what would have been the French maestro’s 83rd birthday, we’re posting them again. Bon anniversaire Serge!

The Boston Phoenix on “Those Shocking Shaking Days:” “…mind-bendingly, earth-shatteringly, consciousness-alteringly awesome…”

The Boston Phoenix Writes: “I know what you’re thinking: Is Those Shocking, Shaking Days: Indonesian Hard, Psychedelic, Progressive Rock and Funk 1970-1978 really as mind-bendingly, earth-shatteringly, consciousness-alteringly awesome as its title would suggest? Abso-fucking-lutely. ”

Thanks guys!

Sneak Peak – Our “True Soul: Deep Sounds From The Left Of Stax” Anthology Coming This Summer!

Have we not mentioned that we’re issuing an anthology that surveys the lofty 60s and 70s achievements of Lee Anthony’s legendary Little Rock, Arkansas-based True Soul Records? Maybe we forgot – since we’ve been working on this anthology for 13 (!) years, it seems as if we just assume everyone knows that this behemoth is coming.

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve just received the samples of the hardbound, four LP and full-color booklet box set version of the anthology. We’ll be posting more information about this anthology – and the two volume CD/DVD sets in which we will present this survey – in the coming months. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the vinyl format – with original artwork by the fantastic Lewis Heriz (Whitefield Brothers’ Earthology; Seu Jorge and Almaz).
