One-Take: Now-Again’s First Zine

Egon and Now-Again art director Errol Richardson combed through nearly a quarter century of interviews to present a collection of vignettes: portals into the lives of those that we love and learn from. Here are some of our favorite musicians, in their own words. 100 copies made.

You can buy the Zine as a stand-alone release, or as part of a LP and CD bundle if you want to dig into more of the music and stories of Now-Again’s roster.

One-Take.

How many of our favorite records were recorded. Sounds strung together that are pressed on vinyl for us to discover decades later and celebrate.

Words, in rapid succession, coming to us from a conversation – in person, over the phone, in email or text – that, strung together, speak some truth that inspires us to work with a musician or a band, sometimes for a year, sometimes for decades, to archive their life’s work.

Much of the music we love and reissue has been passed down: for generations now, from parent to child; from deep music enthusiast to latter day vinyl collector; from 10,000 miles away to our LA offices.

We find tattered ‘60s photographs in a decaying Hollywood bungalow, sheltered from the summer heat, ‘90s rap flyers reeking of cigarette smoke in a neon yellow car in Memphis, album art from one of the Mediterranean’s last great family-owned labels delivered in boxes from Beirut.

Apart these clues appear interesting; together they map the movement of music and culture across time and place in the latter half of the 20th century.

One-Take is a series of the words and images that have inspired us to dive a little deeper, ask more questions, and stay curious about why we love the art that we do…. and the people whose passion shaped it into being.
