Ebony Rhythm Band – Soul Heart Transplant (7″)

Buy it here

The Ebony Rhythm Band’s “Soul Heart Transplant” is a take on The Meter’s super-syncopated sound, pushed to the rhythmic hilt by dynamite drummer Matthew Watson. The B Side “Drug’s Ain’t Cool” is a burning black rock interpolation of Spencer Davis’s late 60s classic “I’m A Man.” Originally recorded for an Anti-Drug Songwriting Contest, the Band knocks Heroin while slyly giving the nod to their substances of choice.

Diplomatics – Hum Bug (Parts 1 & 2) (7″)

Diplomatics were a high school ensemble from Indiana lead by Rodney Stepp and funk wunderkind Miles “Butch” Loyd. They released only one 45 on Herb Miller’s LAMP imprint. “Hum Bug” was the Dips’ attempt at creating a Meters-inspired dance a la “Cissy Strut,” complete with a drum break. For this 7-inch release, we showcase the record in its original two-part form, mastered from the original analog tapes.
