Henry Rollins on “Those Shocking Shaking Days….”

Henry Rollins digs him some Indonesian psych-funk. The rock icon had this to say about our Those Shocking Shaking Days anthology and the monstrous Panbers ensemble:

“Immediately, check out track one and the disc it came in on. This is a great compilation called Those Shocking Shaking Days: Indonesian Hard, Psychedelic, Progressive Rock And Funk 1970-1978, released on Now-Again. It’s a great one! Hats off to the label for digging deep and coming up with this one. You can find it at the Stones Throw site, stonesthrow.com.”

New York Daily News Investigates Psych Funk: “….Now-Again Travels The Globe To Capture Far-Flung Psychedelia.”

We’re pleased to announce that the New York Daily News was so impressed by our investigations into global psychedelic funk music that they dedicated an article to it. Alongside discussions about our forthcoming Indonesian psych-funk compendium Those Shocking Shaking Days, writer Jim Farber had this to say:

“As it turns out, psychedelia’s glow didn’t only affect musicians in its clichéd epicenters but in places as far off as Ghana, Tehran and Manila all through the ’70s.

Only lately, though, has the full scope of these sounds come to light, many through the efforts of a company called Now-Again Records. Indian-American owner Eothen Alapatt began putting out collections of this swirling music in 2009 with “Forge Your Own Chains: Heavy Psychedelic Ballads and Dirges 1968 to 1974.” It featured mind-bending cuts by period acts born in Colombia, Sweden, South Korea and elsewhere. From there, the company started traipsing the world, territory by territory, to issue in the last year alone collections by psych bands centered in India, Zambia and Indonesia…

…f ew have exceeded Now-Again’s eagerness and breadth, not to mention their sumptuous packaging and obsessively detailed liner notes.”

Announcing – “Tuck In With…” The Natural Yogurt Band

In 2009 we reissued the Natural Yogurt Band’s first platter – Away With Melancholy. Originally released in a limited run of 1000 pieces by Gerald “Jazzman” Short, those records quickly disappeared and the Jazzman himself had no plans to offer another helping. The result? An audience searching for psychedelic “music library” vibes from the golden era of the 60s and 70s meticulously recreated in the new millennium were left starved.

Two years later, the Band (really former Little Barrie drummer Wayne Fullwood and Miles Newbold) presents to you another platter of delights: Tuck In With… The Natural Yogurt Band. With their sophomore album, Fullwood and Newbold serve up more of what made the Natural Yogurt Band’s debut so special: quirky irreverence abounds, but the band has expanded their menu to include a influences from around the globe.

This album is presented in double 10’’ gatefold LP format, and a “mini-LP” version on CD. Both jackets are paste-on, thick-cut cardboard cases covered by die-cut OBI strips, all placed within a plastic sleeve.

Although we reported differently earlier, due to production problems Tuck In With… The Natural Yogurt Band will be released worldwide on March 8th, 2011.
