Don’t Sleep On Naptown – Indianapolis Funk, Soul and Jazz

Egon has spent years traveling through Indiana, buying records, meeting musicians, and obtaining the rights to catalogs that are small, but essential. The Highlighters classic “Funky 16 Corners,” Spider Harrison’s beat-ballad “Beautiful Day,” the Rhythm Machine’s beautiful mid 70s disco-soul and the Black Conspirators’ fiery funk are just some of the catalogs that Now-Again represents on both the master and publishing side.

Brasilian Psychedelic, Folk and Progressive Rock – Time-Lag Records

In conjunction with Time-Lag Records, Now-Again represents the sublime progressive, psychedelic and folk rock music released by Lula Cortes and his musical compatriots from Recife’s early to late 70s scene. From the melancholic quasi-ragas of the poet Marconi Notaro to the dueling guitars of Cortes and Lailson’s Satwa project to the uber rare progressive – and oft times funky – rock of the rarer-than-rare Cortes solo album Rosa E Sangue, this catalog represents a gleaming cross section of the most progressive of the 70s Brasilian scenes.

Houston Modal, Free, Spiritual and Funk Jazz – Bubbha Thomas & The Lightmen

Houston-based drummer Bubbha Thomas’ Lightin’ Records label has released a series of LPs and 45s by Thomas’s group The Lightmen and by Houston-area high school students. Regarded as essential by those schooled in the private-pressed jazz and funk communities, these releases are represented on both the master and publishing side by Now-Again Records.

New York Funk, Soul, Disco – Enyx Records

Arthur Lane’s Enyx Records released only four releases on his Syracuse based label in the mid to late 70s. Now-Again represents both master and publishing on this catalog, which includes funk classics like Bad Medicine’s “Trespasser” and soul classics like Sheila Skipworth’s “Look What You’ve Done For Me.”

Texas Funk, Soul, Jazz, Disco and Boogie – Soultex Records

Dallas’s Soultex Records, founded and run by the multi-talented Roger Boykin, has released records for the past forty years. Many of Boykin’s releases have seen reissue – or issue – on Now-Again. Now-Again represents both master and publishing on Boykin’s extensive catalog of funk, soul, jazz, psychedelia, disco and boogie music.
