Ohio’s Dayton Sidewinders released a series of six 45s on founder Carl Cowen’s Carlco imprint. Their originals, such as “Go Ahead On” and “Let’s Go Down To Funksville,” and their transcendent covers, such as “Slippin’ Into Darkness,” are revered by funk and soul enthusiasts the world over and are proudly entrenched in the Deep Funk canon. Now-Again represents the master recordings on all of the Dayton Sidewinders releases and both sides on the band’s original compositions.
Now-Again, in conjunction with North Carolina-based researcher and archivist Jason Perlmutter, represents a host of North and South Carolinan soul, funk and jazz bands. Carleen and the Groovers, James Reese and The Progressions, Mixed Feeligs and Primitive are just some of the many artists whose master recordings and publishing are represented by Now-Again
Phoenix, Arizona based Michael Liggins small catalog of releases on the well-known Mighty Records label can only be described as “peyote-induced funk.” Not that Michael and his multi-cultural band of Mexican, Black and Native Americans were ingesting the magic weed. But it sure seems like they were up to something! Now-Again represents both Michael’s master and publishing rights.
John Terrel’s Knaptown Records, named the nickname of his home city, Indianapolis, released only three 45s, but they are incredible slices of soul, funk and jazz. Now-Again represents both master and publishing of these rare tunes.
