This definitive reissue of the 1976 release was lacquered in an all-analog transfer by Bernie Grundman, who removed the Dolby noise reduction and freed the space in the record’s grooves. Grundman himself said that this is the best that this record has ever sounded.
Contains an oversized 8 page booklet that details Stone Alliance founder Gene Perla’s arc in music, the creation and lineage of his PM Records and the story of the Stone Alliance band.

For over three decades, the Stone Alliance’s debut album has been a record collector’s commodity, an LP that evolved from the Rare Groove 1990s into a hallowed place in America’s deep jazz canon.
It has a special place in Now-Again’s origin story. And, as we noted in a previous post, Now-Again’s Eothen “Egon” Alapatt traveled from Los Angeles to Easton, Pennylvania to conclude a historic moment in 2023: the transfer of PM Records – the record company known for its issues of albums by Perla’s Stone Alliance, Elvin Jones and other jazz luminaries over a five decade run – to his care.
Egon’s connection with PM Records dates back to the early 1990s, when he first heard a sample of master percussionist Don Alias’s “Sweetie-Pie” which appeared on the Stone Alliance album of the same name. It was through this opening that he discovered the breadth of the PM Records catalog, which is still active, with over 60 releases to date.
At the time of the transfer, Gene Perla said:
“Out of the blue, it started with a phone call from Eothen and that he was interested in my PM catalog. The next thing was a knock at the door whereupon he… visited my home and had a blast looking through my basement storage. Business took hold immediately, which included copies of all of my remaining PM LPs being sent to the two remaining Beastie Boys. I felt from the moment we met that only good things would ensue – and they have.”
Now, with the definitive reissue of Stone Alliance, Now-Again is also offering a series of vintage PM Records vinyl and a value-priced bundle at Rappcats and on the Now-Again Bandcamp.
